One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is watching the children grow up. I can go an entire year before I see the family again and we all know a lot of growth can happen in that twelve months. Babies learn to walk and talk, cognitive thinking and the ability to engage with adults strengthens, voices lower and likes and dislikes can change radically. On one hand it’s like meeting this kids for the first time all over again, but on the other hand, there’s a history and memories made previously to build on. Change is one of the most unusual and enjoyable aspects to family photography.
Last year the Ericksen children and I explored their barn together. They seemed so much older this year as the whole family and I explored the neighboring river glen. With their session over and their images delivered, I’m looking forward to the next time I see them and learning their new personalities all over.
